Herding Instict Trial - Glen Rose, TX

The club had 5 Swissy's entered in the Herding Instinct Test at the Nolan River Show in Glen Rose, TX last weekend. This was an AKC Herding Instinct Test put on by the German Shepherd Club of Ft. Worth. In order for a dog to earn their Herding Instinct Certificate a dog must show herding instinct in two tests by two different judges. Three Swissy's earned their Herding Instinct Certificate and two Swissy's earned 1 leg towards their Herding Instinct Certificate. It was a lot of fun watching the dogs instincts take over!

Glen Rose Dog Show - Jan 7-8, 2012

Come out to the Nolan River Kennel Club Show in Glen Rose, TX on January 7th and 8th 2012. The NRKC is hosting a 2 day All Breed Confirmation Show with Obedience and Rally Trials. The Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs will be judged on Saturday in Ring 2 at 12:35pm and on Sunday in Ring 3 at 12:50pm. Go to http://www.onofrio.com/ for the full Judging Program.

Lone Star Bernese Mountain Dog Club Draft Test

The Lone Star Bernese Mountain Dog Club is now accepting entries for their All Breed Draft Test! The test is February 17-19 (3 days!!) at Liberty Park in Spring, TX. The deadline to enter is February 6, 2012.

Pack Hike - Jan 14, 2012

Gulf Coast pack hike season starts with a hike on the Barton Creek Greenbelt Trail, Austin TX, on Saturday, January 14, 2012. The hike has been approved by the Gulf Coast board and the GSMDCA pack dog committee.

The Barton Creek Trail is a jewel of Austin's extensive park system. The trail is isolated from nearby urban Austin as it follows Barton Creek next to cliff faces (popular with rock climbers) and through woody and rocky areas. It is a busy, multi-use trail shared with mountain bikers (although where possible we will follow portions of the trail that are off-limits to bikes). Depending on weather conditions, difficulty of the hike can range from easy to moderate.

Cost of the hike will be $15 per team, which will go the Gulf Coast club treasury.
